Statement
I have been involved in fibers and fiber techniques since childhood. It all began with potholders, Weave it looms, doll clothes and beaded necklaces. My fascination expanded to color and color interactions and has remained the center of my thoughts and work. My inspirations come from my experiences, places I go and things I see. Water above and below is my special place, not to mention my everyday life and the area I live in.
I take ok photographs that I love to interpret in my work. Recently I have taken the photos, edited them and cropped them until they are now abstract. With the abstraction, comes color and many interactions. Color and who their friends are is endlessly entertaining to me.
The techniques I am drawn to are dyeing – both fabric and threads, surface design – printing, stamping and painting, stitching – both hand stitch, machine thread painting and punch needle embroidery and most recently – art quilting. I use each alone or am happy to use them all together to get the effect i want.
Biography
I have been involved in fiber work for the last 50+ years. I attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and got a BS in Home Economics. My life’s path has included craft fairs, owning a weaving shop, writing for publications and teaching across North America for 30 of those years. During that time, also wrote “Color in Spinning” and Color Works” both published by Interweave Press. My work has been shown throughout the country and been purchased for private collections.
