Bio
Chriss Johns is a visual artist that makes contemporary art quilts. She uses graphic language to bring the viewer into the world of quilts that are not used for linens but rather experienced as works of art. Bold contrast and abstract shapes are the foundation for each contemporary art quilt Chriss makes. She seeks to find connections through exploration of abstraction and looks for ways to push ambiguous figure ground. Her curious nature encourages experimentation with formal design elements. Chriss chooses to honor history and demonstrate that contemporary quilts have evolved and can be a category of fine art all to themselves.
Chriss lives in the suburbs of Chicago. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois. Chriss was owner and managing partner of MBS, Investments for 38 years. Chriss’ art has been accepted into major quilt exhibitions including Art Quilt Elements, Quilt Visions, Quilt National, Fiber Art Now; Excellence in Quilts, Art + Quilts = Art, and Color Improvisations, 3. Chriss is a Founding Member of the Textile Art Gallery, NYC.
